Are you super sure about atheros not working at all?

Also, is the NIC you got that Intel Pro/1000 PT one, or something else (cheaper maybe.. )

BTW - I am new to ESXi, and as yet have not even able to complete a basic install (gives up when it can't detect the network adapter)
